1. Eight people sign up, well seven more since I'm in.

2. I randomize a draft order and we do a snake draft for six rounds, each team trying to create the best starting line-up + 6th man.

3. When the drafting is done, we have a tournament where teams go up against each other in polls lasting 24 hours.  SI members vote on which team they think would win in a match-up.

(After you have made a pick, please PM the person who is up next.)

Post below to claim a team.

I just realized it's unfair to have an odd number of rounds in a snake draft, so we will do 6 rounds and each team can draft a 6th man.

Personally I don't like the idea of people's votes being the decider of who wins. I think you should leave it up to statistics. Maybe do it for tournament players only (draft sometime after Selection Sunday) and add up total points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks for 5 categories. Would be strategic because you'd assume McDermott would be the first pick but his team could be eliminated early thus you wouldn't get much of a net return.

That would be awesome but a shit load of work.  I think you should do it.

It wouldn't be that difficult to do. I'd be interested if we draft a team for the tournament and count the statistics from them. I don't really understand the point of a vote by SI to determine the winner. As long as it's not too many teams I could probably keep track of the stats for you. I don't have access to the pm system right now, so I'm not sure if that will be a problem. I think it would be interesting strategy though to try to balance out the best players with how far that team will go to get statistics.

As far as the poll thing, it's just a stupid thing to do that's fun but obviously potentially very subjective by the voters.

If you want to be the guy to tally up the stats if we do CC's idea, I would organize it and run the draft thread.  Maybe we could limit it to 10 teams with 6 players each, so you'd have to tally 60 players.  We could do less teams if less people are interested.  The cool thing about CC's idea is we don't have to have a specific number of teams to run a tournament.

Yeah. I can keep track of it. I'll just make a sheet and try to give an update after each round. Between 1 and 2 may be tough since they are back to back, but I should be able to do it. 10 teams with 6 each would be fine with me. I think the first 2 play in games start on Tuesday or Wednesday or something. I'm not sure if you want to count them, but we can probably just do a slow draft on here on Monday/Tuesday. I'm not here during the day but after 3:30ish I'm usually available to be checking in for a draft.

I'm in if we're going off stats.

We can each just draft 5 ish guys and update after each weekend. If we get 8 teams we could even do it bracket style since their would be three rounds for three weekends, but idk if we'll get enough.

What are we doing about positions? Are we going to have guidelines or can we just pick anyone

3 questions:

1. What stats are we using? Points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks?
2. What are the roster settings, or is it just any 5 players?
3. When do you want to start the draft?

Fuck, I completely forgot about this, I am so sorry.  We're too close to the games starting to do a draft now, being that the games start tomorrow.  I should have had the draft starting over this past weekend.  Sorry again.

As a booby prize, here's my idea that I had over the past five minutes after seeing this thread bumped and feeling like an idiot:

Let's all just post our best starting fives we can come up with as number accumulators in this tournament and see who can assemble the best. Rules:

- This is not about averages, this is about totals.  So if a player goes to the elite eight, he's going to have better totals than a sick player who went home in the 32.  Your bracket vision has a lot to do with this.

- Your starting five can't be smaller than G/G/G/F/F.  If you are unsure about the categorization of one of your players and we end up having to argue about it, you are DISQUALIFIED.  So if you go G/G/G/F/F, be sure.  Yes I know Villanova once started four guards.  Don't care.

- Points will be cut in half when you figure your totals.  The most simplistic way to do this is 1 point = 0.5 challenge points, 1 assist = 1 challenge points, 1 rebound = 1 challenge points, 1 steal = 1 challenge points, 1 block = 1 challenge points.

People have until the games start on 3/20 to post their 5s.
