No confirmation from team, but source says Mariners sending Pineda and Jose Campos to Yankees for Jesus Montero/Hector Noesi.

I like it a lot for both. Montero has undeniable hitting ability but he has no position. Thought they needed to go out and get a pitcher for him, and Pineda's upside is worth it.

Seattle gets much needed hitting though

very good for both sides.

Hard to come by a top catching prospect. Better to get a young bat now, especially since they have virtually no shot at the West for a few years. And Yanks get a much needed arm -- they just need to hope he doesn't drop off after his rookie year.

While probably not the case....

Do you think the Yankees go after a big FA bat now to DH?

btw while I've always thought both Kuroda and Pineda were overrated, a rotation of CC-Hughes-Pineda-Kuroda-AJ is solid

They'll probably go after Carlos Pena. Don't think they'll invest a ton into Prince.

They have a couple of good specs nearing the MLB as well. If I were them, I'd willingly pay most of Burnett's contract to get him off the team.

Nova is due to regress as well.

We've got Betances and Banuelos who will likely be MLB ready by the start of next year if not sooner. Dude, Betances, Banuelos, and Pineda for the next 10 years?

At the same time I'm really disappointed though. I fell in love with Montero in his short time last year and really thought he had superstar potential and I don't think he'll ever put up the power numbers he has the potential to in Seattle.

The Yankees rotation just went from a weakness to a strength IMO.

Betances is destined to be a pen arm

He has ace potential. He just needs to work on repeating his delivery. I think he tries to throw too hard sometimes and it causes command problems.

His stuff is filthy and he has prototypical size, that downward trajectory he gets because of his height is a huge advantage.

Pitched way better at friendly Safeco than away from it but, at his age and upside, it's a good deal. The lineup wasn't a problem for them but pitching was. Took a surplus (Montero) and sold high on it.

Suprised the Yanks moved Montero. But it is certainly a solid deal both ways.

When it does really help our rotation I'm going to be disappointed to see Montero progress into a big league player in a Mariners uniform.

After sleeping on it, I'm not as pissed about this trade. Would've rather held out for King Felix instead if Montero had to go.
