McNabb: I’m the most unfairly criticized quarterback in NFL history

Former Eagles, Redskins and Vikings quarterback Donovan McNabb made another appearance on ESPN First Take on Friday, and just as he did on Thursday by questioning whether Robert Griffin III can fit with the Redskins, McNabb made a comment that will surely raise eyebrows.

This time, McNabb proclaimed himself the most unfairly maligned quarterback in NFL history, saying that no other passer has ever had to deal with the same stuff that he has.

It started with McNabb criticizing Tim Tebow and First Take provocateur Skip Bayless stepping in to say Tebow receives more criticism than he deserves.

“Tim Tebow,” Bayless said, “is the most unfairly, over-criticized quarterback in the history of this league.”

With that, McNabb interjected, “Negative — I am.”

“I am,” McNabb continued. “Nobody has been criticized as much as I have.”

McNabb has faced plenty of criticism, although whether that criticism is unfair is a matter of opinion. It was surely unfair when McNabb was booed on draft day in 1998, and Rush Limbaugh once offered a dumb assessment of McNabb, but for the most part the amount of criticism he has received has mirrored the quality of his play. When McNabb played well, he was rewarded with cheers, Pro Bowls and endorsements.

And when McNabb played poorly, he was booed, traded and finally released. There’s nothing unfair about that.

A blind dog could have seen that Andy Reid compensated for McNabb's major shortcomings for years. He was criticized, fairly, with the exception of racially themed criticism.

The guy still refuses to accept responsibility for his failures.

He was on First take the other day bashing the Redskins coaching staff. I don't understand how a guy who put in so little work could be so bitter.

I wouldn't put in the work either if they weren't willing to utilize my strengths properly

Unfortunately, we didn't have any receivers with hands on their feet, so we couldn't fully utilize his patented "back ankle" throws.

What strengths? His only major strength was his mobility when he was younger, but that has been gone for a while now. And what, did the Redskins and Vikings misuse him? No. He just sucks.

I'm just going off what McNabb said, he said that he didn't think RGIII would be a good fit there either because they give you an offense and tell you that's what it is and aren't willing to be flexible to make it fit you better.

But Griffin fits, though not perfectly, pretty good what Shannahan wants to do. Even if he won't change (which he will, because he's enamoured with RG3, he never was with McNabb), Griffin will still produce in the system.

Mike Shannahan was very good at having John Elway as his QB.

Terrell Davis never gets the credit he deserves.
TD was fucking amazing. But let's not forget Shannahan made Jake Plummer look good and was able to literally have anyone rush for 1000 yards.

I think Mcnabb wasnt treated well in Philly and he was under appreciated. When he went to the Redskins, those teams were just awful offensively so in part it was his fault but he didnt have a good surrounding cast.

McNabb really wasn't bad at all in Minnesota. He took big leads into halftime in most of his losses and then the defense couldn't stop a nosebleed.

Cutler looked great too, and he is somewhat mobile

It pains me to say this but I think he's done. It sucks because he was under appreciated when he was with the Eagles after everything he's done. I'd be surprised if another team picks him up.
