Marshawn Lynch just called me, we just talked, Robinson said. He said he will be holding out from training camp this year with the Seahawks.

Lynch has two years remaining on a four-year deal worth up to $30 million and reportedly wants to get some more upfront money with the knowledge that he could be released after this season and not receive the money on the final year of his deal. He would be due for $5.5 million in 2014.

Times like these make me hate the NFL. Why take the 4 year deal two years ago? This happens all the time too.

Because a contract isn't really a contract when one party involved can terminate it at any given time.  "Contract" is a term that is used loosely out of it's definition in the NFL.

This is a guy who probably figures he can either start getting paid as a top five running back accordingly for his last couple years of his prime, or he can just retire and save some years on his life.  He's already given up enough of his longevity to be a star RB for a Super Bowl champion.  Right now he's trying to value the years on the end of his life versus the money he can still make in the NFL.  Being an NFL running back is more hazardous to your health than being a smoker.

It's a dangerous sport, and as Mob said, teams can terminate contracts at any time with almost no penalty. Knowing this, players have every right to do this.

I have no problem trying to get more money. I have a problem with guys taking a 4 year contract then not participating in camp two years in to it.

I'm not saying the teams are any better. They dish out big contracts and most of it is unguaranteed. It's a broken system. So many of this year's free agents could be cut next spring.

Though I guess in a way that makes it easier for teams to dig themselves out of a hole. idk.

Still don't agree with your problem.  The contract is not a two way street.

So basically what you guys are saying is it's okay for Lynch to hold out because he just wants that nice big signing bonus. Ok, I'm cool with that, lol.

No. It's OK for Lynch to hold out because A: He deserves more up front money, as the original post said and B: The Seahawks should be thrilled that he will avoid any unnecessary contact considering that he's probably the most violent runner in recent NFL history. I don't think even Marion Barber was ever this violent.

Marshawn Lynch will suit up week 1 and he'll go Beast Mode for another season barring injury. This really shouldn't concern anybody.

Lynch has no leverage here.  Honestly, Seattle would probably be better off without him.

They have a pretty deep stable of running backs already, and they have a lot of young talent that they need to pay.

I disagree. Lynch does something that many backs struggle to do, and that's stay relatively healthy. You can't overlook that when you assess his value.
