There is no way in hell that Pujols would pass up an offer like that...

But at the same time, 10 years? Seems a bit desperate to me.

Man its tough being a Mets fan....

This team is just not good at all anymore without Reyes. If Wright, Davis, and Santana can be healthy next year they could possibly make up for the loss of Reyes, but thats a big if. Gonna be weird seeing him run out triples against us, but it happens. At least we get compensated with draft picks for him.

Reyes has an injury history and because of that I wouldve gone with 4 years with a good 5th year option.

i would have gone 5 years with a 6th year vesting option based on At Bats in the first 4 years. Too much of an injury risk.

Should have just traded him last year. They had to know if he hit free agency some team would overpay, or just offer a lot more then them. This was inevitable.

Yea, but the thing is at the time when he was on the team, the Mets were in the playoff race. Right when they were out of it, he got injured and his value decreased significantly for an injured player going to a team for a couple of months for a playoff push.

I doubt anyone really thought the Mets had a chance of making the playoffs, lets be honest.

Yea, but if they traded Reyes during the season while they were still in it and competing the fan base wouldve been really pissed and not many fans wouldve come to the ballpark to watch that team without Reyes. Reyes gave fans a reason to go. Im not saying its the correct logic, Im just saying that its what ownership felt was the best choice at the time.

NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Mets’ owners recently got a $40 million loan to help with cash flow, a year after getting a $25 million loan from Major League Baseball.

The recent loan came in the last six weeks from a major bank and was first reported by The New York Times on Monday.

The Mets have been plagued by the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme and general manager Sandy Alderson has said the team lost $70 million.

The Mets called the recent transaction a “bridge loan” to help them while they seek to sell minority shares of the club.

A statement by the Mets says the latest loan was approved by “Major League Baseball and the syndicate of lenders to the Mets” and that the effort to sell minority shares “continues to go very well.”

Last week, star shortstop Jose Reyes left the Mets as a free agent and joined the Miami Marlins.
A lot of people say that their ownership is the worst of all the major sports. I think I have a contestant for that title..... 3 years ago the Mets payroll was around 140 million I believe. Now its around 100 million, still a lot but you can see how they have been cutting payroll significantly.

Because they have to...they don't have the money to pay a big payroll anymore.
