The Mariners sent left-hander Cliff Lee and reliever Mark Lowe to the Rangers on Friday for first baseman Justin Smoak and three minor prospects, according to an Associated Press report.

It was the third trade in less than a year for Lee, who went 8-3 with a 2.34 ERA in 13 starts for Seattle. He can become a free agent after this season.
Just for an official thread.

Love this deal for the Rangers. They're proving they're a legit team with this

Best of luck Cliff <3

I like the deal for both, Rangers finally get that true ace that they've always wanted and the M's get some good prospects and a power hitter in Smoak.

Yea, Im glad he didnt go to the Yankees as well. I think this is a great move for the Rangers, now they have a legitimate ace in the staff and look very potent for a playoff run. The Rangers arent known for these kinds of blockbuster moves during the season, so this should definitely carry a lot of momentum and put them into the playoffs.

Unfortunately, at the end of the season, he's going to New York anyway. The Rangers can't keep him. Executives from other teams were already pissed off the Rangers made this move while staying afloat on other people's money...you think they can get away with signing him long term?

I dont think they will sign him long term, but if he brings the Rangers a championship, wouldnt that be appropriate reasoning for trading for him? Championships dont come by too easily for teams and I think the Rangers are just ripe enough to make a run, if you know what im saying.

Oh yeah, definitely, I was just commentating on those who are glad he didn't go to New York because it's a very good possibility he ends up there eventually.

Yea, even though I can so see Cliff Lee playing with the twins. I dont know why but they just seem like a perfect match, lol. He's going to either New York team, you can count on that.

We'll see how this works.. In the last 3 years, the most trouble he has had at one ballpark, has been in Texas. Maybe it's just the Texas offense or maybe it's the stadium. We'll see, hopefully he can get a ring in Texas
