The Rangers and Yankees doesn't expect to receive an answer from free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee for a few days, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Both Texas and New York have recently upped their offers to Lee and they are giving him and his camp time to sort things out.

You beat me to it.

The Rangers had their chance to win a ring with Lee and they failed. If he's smart, he'll be wearing pinstripes in 2011.

Just get this overwith already Cliff. He's going to be a Yankee and in the end, I think we discover that the Rangers' offer was for significantly less money than expected, their 7th year was an optional year, and the sales pitch they gave him revolved around a lot of non-money benefits to staying in Texas.

If it was as easy as you say, he would have already signed most likely. It's obvious something is keeping him from signing with New York right now and it probably has to do with Texas offering in the same neighborhood, just my guess though.

I'm sure he's taking his time to consider where he spends the next 7 years...I don't know him personally but I would think that he's weighing everything. Money, where to live, schools, his role, the team around him, pressure...everything. Like I said, I think we'll find out that the Rangers gave it a shot but they can't exceed $110M and that 7th year is an option.

But I stand by the fact that its a forgone conclusion he ends up a Yankee. The money is a huge reason, CC Sabathia is another, and 3rd is the fact that he doesn't have to spend the next however many years with all this pressure inside the Yankee rotation. Just think about how it would feel to know that the Rangers nearly exhausted their options with your contract and if you get hurt or struggle...

If the Rangers could only offer 110 million then this process would already be over. The 7 year committment is an easy decision to make if the other team is off by so much, for example, the Red Sox offered Carl Crawford 40 more million then the Angels, easy decision. With the new owners in Texas they have more money to spend and they are very much in the race. And there is no state income tax in Texas, and a cheaper cost of living then in New York, so they can offer a little less and still amount to the same offer as New York.
Who knows if he likes New York either, grew up in Arkansas, quiet guy, maybe he wants to live down south.

There's reports that the Angels offered Crawford the same deal upon hearing of Boston's offer.

That whole no income tax argument doesn't mean as much as some like to make it out either. I can almost guarantee that the Yankees offer is higher than the Rangers offer + the difference in NYS income tax. He'll be living in Alpine, New Jersey too...not New York. Practically none of these guys actually live in the city anymore. New Jersey has plenty of upscale, quiet suburbs and he can get all the hunting and fishing he wants in Upstate New York or Southern New Jersey. You talk about private schools for his kids...can't beat 'em in the state of NJ.

People need to stop looking at this as if Cliff Lee is going to have his family packed on the 21st floor of a penthouse in upper Manhattan. I would of thought people learned their lesson from trying to characterize all these reasons why CC Sabathia wouldn't sign with the Yankees.

Of course it's a mistake to sign him for 7 years but its a mistake the Yankees can afford to make. Within 3 seasons, he'll relegate to a good, not great, #3 or #4 pitcher. Carrying hefty deals of players that are past their prime is nothing new to the Bronx. Such a situation would haunt the Rangers a few years from now. I don't care how much more money new ownership has...they can't afford to carry around that pricetag and remain competitive in the FA market year to year. They're still the Texas Rangers and they their profit margin doesn't rise too much year to year.
