For a player looking for greatness, looking to be the best of all time, having a losing record in his NBA Finals history really hurts LeBron James' legacy, as he tries to surpass MJ and his 6 rings. After carrying a talentless Cavaliers team to the NBA Finals in 07, and then losing to the Celtics in the ECF in 08, he felt he had a better chance of winning titles by joining with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami. And look, he did. He made four straight NBA Finals, and won two of them. And for most teams and players, thats a huge success; they'll take any championships they can get. But for LeBron, this wasn't enough. After putting his neck out on the line, after he "took his talents to South Beach", and guaranteeing that the number of titles he would win would be, "Not one, not two...", to end up in the situation he is in right now is not good for James. For a team that was so dominant in the past three years, was just so flat in this years NBA Finals. Wade was plain awful. Bosh was putting up numbers that were slightly lower than what you would want from a #3 option, except he was the #2 option. Like he did in 2007, LeBron carried his team in the NBA Finals, and got embarrassed by San Antonio.
So what is next for James and the Heat? Ray Allen and Shane Battier have likely played their last games, at ages 38 and 35 respectively. 35 year old Birdman Anderson, 34 year old Shard Lewis, and 34 year old Udonis Haslem are near that point as well, and Dwyane Wade might be getting there closer than anyone wants. LeBron James will be turning 30 next season, and Bosh will turn 31. This is a very old team, and this might no longer be the best opportunity for James to win a title. In Houston, there is Harden and Dwight. In Cleveland, there is Kyrie and the 2014 #1 overall pick. There are plenty of places for James to go, if he wants to leave, but is it even the best decision for him? His reputation was massacred for leaving Cleveland the way he did, and if he left for, lets say, the Rockets, I'm not sure his reputation will ever be the same. He might have to stay in Miami, even if that doesn't present his best chance of winning a title.
