Leafs Acquire Talbot's Rights

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired the negotiating rights to center Maxime Talbot from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Talbot, 27, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He made $1.5 million this past season.

In 82 games with the Penguins in 2010-11, Talbot registered eight goals and 13 assists for 21 points, along with 66 penalty minutes.

The native of Lemoyne, Quebec, has played in 388 career NHL games, all with the Penguins, and has accumulated 52 goals and 56 assists for 108 points, and 324 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Penguins in the eighth-round, 234rd overall, of the 2002 NHL entry Draft.

Max Talbot's rights have not been traded to TOR or anywhere else. Talbot's rep has had permission since Sunday to talk to other teams.

OK, my turn for a correction. PIT granted permission for Talbot's rep to talk only to TOR for 48 hours commencing Sunday.

Talbot's 48 hour window to negotiate with TOR has expired, PIT still owns his rights. And that's where we're at right now. Got it? Good.
