They didn't have any other option but 18M annually is a lot for someone of Kyries caliber.

Agreed. You gotta lock guys like him up if you want any chance in free agency.

I'd grave dig and quote 90% of the forum who kept telling me Kyrie would not sign a max extension, and how he absolutely hated Cleveland, but nah. Now he's just not worth it's since we can't play that card.

He's 22 and a 3 year pro. You're paying for potential.

Now I'll wait for the posts saying that Kyrie is a finished product at 22 and has no potential and that I'm being defensive towards Kyrie.

Ha ha, all you haters, HA

I'd venture to say 90% of the forum stated he would still sign the extension because guys don't turn down max extensions. Saying he did not want to part of Cleveland is true, but I would hope that there weren't a bunch of people saying that he wouldn't sign the extension. That was never a realistic outcome.

And you don't pay a guy 18M because of potential. You overpay for a guy because he owned all the leverage and 18M is what he was satisfied with.

Also needs to be stated after he makes the All-Star team next season he will become eligible for the Rose Rule and he will likely see another 5% increase in his pay.

Either way, all of you were practically rubbing it in my face with all of these rumors that he didn't want to be here, which is clearly false now. Now that that is over, lets talk about how he isn't even worth that contract we said he didn't want to sign or wasn't going to sign. Thanks.

As I have said before, I can't win on this. It's always something with you people. So I'll just enjoy the next 6 years with Kyrie & Wiggins.

Serious question, why do you always seem so defensive? If there were people telling you that Kyrie would pass on a max extension and risk injury while playing on his QO then those are people you should put on your ignore list and not listen to.

Now the debate that's he's worth 18M, and like I said he will likely see a 5% increase after next season is a legitimate debate. Can you honestly say 18M isn't overpaying, if even by a small amount?

By defensive you mean the only person who was actually right? Everyone kept post articles, mainly you actually, always posting about his unhappiness, disinterest in playing for the Cavs, the Cavs not willing to offer him the extension in fear he'd decline, potentially forcing his way out (If he had declined the max extension, he would have been traded, that was his out if he really wanted to leave). I guess I'm defensive because I got tired of non-news and old stories being recycled because it fit the "no one likes Cleveland" narrative?

He's a 3rd year pro, he was going to hit RFA the following year. You're paying off potential. No he's not worth 18 million now, you're banking on him being worth it after steady improvement.

The Cleveland Cavaliers might not offer Kyrie Irving a maximum contract offer because they believe he will not accept, according to a report.

The Cavaliers reportedly do not want to look bad if Irving would decline the deal.

Irving is eligible to sign a new contract with the Cavaliers this offseason.

This is exactly what I was talking about. No matter what the Cavs plan to do, it's going to be swung in a way that makes them look bad, no matter what.

The Cavs could offer the max, have it accepted, no one will remember this thread, and then they'll go on different crusades.

So all of you thought he was going to re-sign, and all the non sense that you posted was basically trolling and attempting to rile me up? I heard we have rules against that.
