New York Knicks president and general manager Steve Mills met about two weeks ago with Phil Jackson about the possibility of becoming the teams next head coach, sources told ESPNs Stephen A. Smith.

The sources told Smith the message the Knicks received from Jackson was that he was not interested in the position at this time.

They've got nothing good going for them for a while.

They probably just wanna give Melo a reason to stay.

And right on cue, isola has news

Phil Jackson has been offered a front office position with the Knicks and is expected to give the club a decision sometime next week, the Daily News has learned.

SAS said coaching, Isola said what I thought about a FO job which is interesting. No good team FO job will open up, knicks can still draw free agents, especially with phil.

That seems to make more sense.

If they wanted him to coach they would have been better off doing it last offseason after the season they put up. Would have looked like a better fit. But now, he ain't coming here to coach, so a Front Office position would make a lot more sense.

I'd love to see it happen. I'd hate to see him coach here and let us ruin another great coach.

Gonna beat Detroit to the punch. Gores would've probably offered him a job in the offseason.

That's gotta be the two worst choices. Detroit vs James Dolan.

Well he'd take a GM role here, whereas probably just an advisor of some sort in NY.

I still don't think he'll take any job with us. He can talk to just about anyone in the league/formerly in the league and they'll all say working under Dolan is a bad decision.

The New York Knicks and Phil Jackson continue to discuss a deal for him to run the front office.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports that no one in Jackson's camp thinks a deal is "close."

Bill Simmons of ESPN reported on Sunday that Steve Kerr would be a leading candidate to become head coach if Jackson is hired. Frank Isola of the New York Daily News also reports Kerr could be strongly considered.

Kerr is currently an analyst with TNT and was previously general manager of the Phoenix Suns.

"My guess would be Steve Kerr because they're close," said Simmons. "Steve Kerr wants to get into coaching and has said hopefully this season would be the year."

The New York Knicks and Phil Jackson are discussing a deal for him to run the front office.

Donnie Walsh was given tremendous power when he was hired in 2008 in a similar deal, but that had limitations when James Dolan chose to intervene. Dolan also gave considerable power to Isiah Thomas.

"Nobody will ever have full autonomy," a high-ranking league official told Yahoo Sports. "Donnie had it in his deal, and when he questioned it, it was, 'See you later.' "

Dolan believes Jackson is capable of swinging the balance of power in free agency.

But Dolan's persistent policy of stonewalling the media provides a foundation for the Knicks' turmoil.

"The biggest issue for [Dolan] is the no-talk policy with the media," a high-ranking league official said. "Everybody signs on, except for Walsh. And after that [Dolan] said, "Never again.' "

I think Phil to the Knicks would be like MJ to the Wizards. Not the ending that a great storyteller would tell, but his legacy will still forever be intact. Namath on the Rams, Emmitt Smith on the Cards, Karl Malone on the Lakers. Years later we remember the core of the legacy, not the final chapter.

I mean shit, lets give him a chance first

No one knows if he will suck or not

I will say this, look at pop and san antonio's tree compared to phil
He vouches for shaw and rambis and how is that working? He has like no assistants who are coaches, not even assistants

He never played rookies so who knows if he can evaluate that kind of young talent

But lets give him a chance

Yea I agree gotta give him a chance to build a team. I would love to have Steve Kerr as coach as well, I love his analysis of the NBA and I think he would be a great option. I didnt know Kerr and Jackson were so close though. I guess from their days in Chicago it happened.

James Dolan has reportedly solicited the help of Bill Bradley in negotiations with Phil Jackson and the two sides could sign a deal that earns Jackson in excess of $15 million per year, according to a source.

Jackson also has had preliminary discussions with the Knicks about owning a minority stake in the team.

Bradley won a championship with Jackson on the 1973 Knicks and is a former U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate.

If Jackson joins the Knicks, Steve Mills will remain in the front office.

Jackson has been seeking a deal similar to the one Jerry West has with the Golden State Warriors in which he is an advisor. West takes approximately two trips from his home in the Los Angeles area to Oakland.

Jackson has little interest in relocating to New York on a full time basis and running the day-to-day operations of the club. Jackson's plan could include him hiring a general manager while serving as final decision maker along with Dolan.

Steve Kerr has been mentioned as a possible head coaching candidate under Jackson.

Dolan believes Jackson is worth making the face of the Knicks' franchise.
