The Knicks officially are expected to sign Mike Woodson to long-term contract this week, according to multiple sources.

The Knicks finished 18-6 under Woodson during the regular season.

Not the right man for the job imo, if you want to build a actual playoff contender that is.

The man had us playing the best defense in the league at the end of the season, the players (mainly Melo) buy into his system and his coaching. And he has the players respect.

Right move.

Yall gave up 96 PPG over the last month of the season, which is average. It's also more than yall gave up on average during the entire regular season. Yall gave up 97 PPG to the Heat in yalls series, which is nearly 5 more points per game than they averaged during the regular season, and more than 10 more points on average than they are scoring in this series against Indy. Best defense in the league? Step back.

Not to mention his offensive system will never be a system for consistent success, especially in the playoffs. Your "best" player is massively overrated. IF yall actually want to win a title, he's not the right guy for the job. If yall are content with just making the playoffs, and having the media's attention, then sure.

When I watch the games I saw us hustiling, closing out, hands in the lanes, and hands in faces. Maybe we didnt have the best defense statistically but we were by far one of the most active teams on defense.

I agree the iso offense isnt the best, but for our current team, with 2 great iso players it fits. Just about everyone one our squad can create their own shot, adding a PG that can facilitate put players in their spots, know where they like the ball, and the offense becomes even more effective.

And Melo did look "massively overrated" against Miami, I agree, he looked like he was scared of LeBron, but thats against one of the leagues most versitile defenders, no need to make statements like that when you dont even believe them yourself. Melo is the leagues top scorer hands down, nobody does what he does on the offensive end from that many spots. Now if thats overrated...

I agree with what nola said. Woodson will get you to the playoffs, but I don't think he can win you a championship.

The Knicks are just not in a great position. They have a big 3, but that big 3 will always be worse than the Heat's big 3, and they have no flexibility to improve the team, other than the MLE.

Kevin Durant's 3 scoring titles says otherwise.

KD scores more and way more efficiently than Melo, he's a better scorer than Melo. He's better than Melo at every other facet of basketball as well now that I think about it.

Obviously he's better then Melo in every other facet lol, Im talking about scoring.

Other then this year, Melos stats are identical to KDs in shooting percentages.

Who cares if Melo has a better post game and mid range shot if Durant blows him out of the water in PPG, FG%, 3PT%, FT%, getting to the free throw line and pretty much any statistic there is?

The better scorer is the guy who puts up better scoring numbers

Obviously Durant is better. I still think Woodson is a good coach to have for us. You can argue their defense wasn't great in terms of points allowed, but they were much more aggresive on D and got a lot more steals.

Their offense wasn't great under woodson, but our best offensive guard was injured almost immediately after Woodson took over. Our backup PG under Woodson was Mike fucking Bibby.

I honestly don't even care what the statistics were with or without Woodson. This team sucked under D'Antoni and Woodson had a good record coaching this team.

I'm not even sure I would say the Knicks have a legitimate big three.

Sure the media will say they do, but I don't agree with that.

Not even sure I'd agree with that.

I don't think any of their "big three" are good enough to actually considered "big" anyhthing.

The scope of some people is way to narrow when it comes to guys who put points on the board. Melo isn't a superstar, he's a ball stopper who doesn't play defense. Here is what matters in basketball: efficiency, defense, and passing. Melo is a neutral player. Good in some situations, and just down right bad in others. So if effiency, defense, and passing is what matters, where exactly would you rank Melo? To me? He's a above average player who shoots a lot. I'm not going to deny that he's an exceptional scorer, but scoring doesn't necessarily make you a good or great offensive player when you don't do the other things.
