Lotta old timers still say guys don't throw enough when they're growing up and going through the minors, and that they should throw more in between starts Build up that arm strength. Don't throw often enough and your tendons aren't prepared for that rapid motion 90+ times in a 2-3 hours.

Ye. Doctors say kids are trying to throw too hard at a young age, former pitchers claim they threw more often back in the day and were just fine. Idk what the answer is. I've heard some people ponder whether performance enhancing drugs would actually protect their arms. Would be kind of ironic, eh?

Regardless, it's certainly something baseball needs to address. Whether it's the league office or teams themselves doing more research in to the causes of these injuries, and how they can provent them through new strength and conditioning programs.

Are they throwing too much, are they not throwing enough, were they not throwing enough but now they're throwing too much and their arms can't handle it so suddenly, or are their mechanics this poor? For a while people said it was the mechanics but you can't possibly tell me all of these top, young arms all have bad mechanics. There's just too many of 'em, they're dropping like flies.

being taught bad mechanics at an early age can be part of it though. their mechanics may look good now, but it could have been totally different when they were younger. idk it really could be a combination of different things.

Clemens was healthy throughout his career, no?

Also read a good piece from SI.com. Jameson Taillon (tommy john last month) threw up to 96 mph at 16 years old, 99 mph in his senior year of High School.

Bad mechanics are one thing, but encouraging kids to throw harder and harder at such a young age can't be good either. SI.com was basically suggesting that MLB teams can't prevent it at this point because the damage is already done.
