Twitter has been abuzz about this. Some think it will be more like 10 weeks. 6 weeks puts him ready to play by September 1st, only 10 days before Opening Day. 8 weeks means he will miss the first game of the season.
I am thinking that the Texans will take a cautious approach with the Week 3 Thursday Night Football match-up against the Patriots as his return date. We shouldn't necessarily need JJ against the Bears in Week 1, and asking him to play 2 games in 5 days in Week 2/3 might be asking much for just coming off surgery. Week 3 seems the most logical time to return. Of course, JJ doesn't fit the normal mold of anything so he could bust his butt and be completely healthy in the 6 weeks. Who knows? Every surgery and recovery is a bit different.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has undergone back surgery, sources told ESPN on Thursday, in what was the second surgery in six months for the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
The Texans are optimistic Watt will be ready to play at the start of the regular season. But sources told ESPN's Tania Ganguli there was concern his availability for the early part of the season could be compromised.
