Zach Bogosian became the second important restricted free agent to sign Wednesday, agreeing to a deal with the Winnipeg Jets that was announced by the team just minutes after Brad Marchand came to terms with the Boston Bruins.
Bogosian's deal is reportedly for two years and worth $5 million -- the same length and money reported for Marchand's contract. The 21-year-old defenseman had 5 goals and 22 points in 71 games for the Atlanta Thrashers last season.
He was the No. 3 pick in the 2008 Entry Draft, one selection after fellow restricted free agent Drew Doughty, who has yet to agree to a deal with the Los Angeles Kings. Bogosian had 8 goals in his first 17 games in 2009-10, but has been unable to reach that level of production since.
The Massana, N.Y., native did average more than 22 minutes of ice time per game in 2010-11, up nearly a minute per contest from 2009-10 and more than four minutes from his rookie campaign.
Bogosian has 24 goals and 59 points in 199 career NHL games.
