Supposedly, there are some obscure stats that indicate Faneca was in the bottom 10% in pass blocking in the second half of the season last year, thus stating that he was finally on his way down from greatness. Having spent all this money on Taylor, LT, etc, they probably needed to cut some salary and figured Faneca wasn't worth what he was getting any more especially considering that they drafted someone that they feel comfortable with stepping in to play LG.

Even if they're high on the guy they picked, they shouldn't cut Faneca before Ducasse has even practiced but I guess it makes some sense.
