The Blue Jays and Jose Bautista have the second-largest arbitration gap in the majors, behind Josh Hamilton and the Rangers.

Bautista is seeking $10.5 million, while the Jays have an offer of $7.6 million.

"Our dialogue with their camp has been outstanding," GM Alex Anthopoulos said. "Philosophically, we don't see eye-to-eye right now, and that's OK. That's why we have the process in place, and I think we both realize that there's no one who is right or wrong. Both sides make a compelling case, and that's why we need a third party to make a determination of what the right value for the player is."

I just have a gut feeling he won't do nearly as good next season.
Then again, he had a remarkable season.

It's a risk to sign him now and it will be a risk to sign him later. I'm convinced with Bautista though. His mechanics are the reason he was so good last season and he can play so many different positions.

Jose Bautista is such a fluke! lmao.
54 home runs is no fluke lol. Might be the only time in his career he hits 50 but he could hit at least 30 a year I'd say.

Agreed with rios. The season hasn't even started and you're already calling him a fluke.

I don't have anything against him, but when 53 of your 54 homers are pulled, it's hard to thing great things about him. Yes, he hit 54 homers, that's inevitable. It's how, where, when you do them, shows how great a player is. I'm not saying he sucks or anything. He has power that was hidden until last year, and he'll probably keep it up. Not 54 homers. Probably around 30+.

It's not his power. You can certainly tell that by his body size. You don't think he just hit 54 homeruns from gaining muscle do you? He changed his mechanics. He changed his swing for the 2010 season and apparently he worked with some sort of coach over the summer. He has had clutch moments too. In my opinion, you really have to watch a Jays game and see how Bautista bats to see how great he is from not only his power, but how patient he is at the plate and how he just hits the ball.
