Great move. Bautista is walking at the end of the year so this is more of a next year move

I assume for the time being the outfield will be Saunders, Pillar and Upton? With EE going to 1B and Jose at DH?
 
Not bad. Jose doesn't field as well as he used to and BJ is having a decent year. This can also help preserve Jose down the stretch. Also takes Smoak's bat out.

Jays fans seem to think he'll replace Saunders for this season which i can't see at all. You can't take him out of the lineup with the way he's played this year.
 
Padres are paying 17 million of Upton's remaining 22 million.

Yeah idk. I think their love for Bautista is blinding the fanbase. They can't even come to terms with the fact the Jays aren't even going to offer him a contract.

Saunders and Bau will probably get the bulk of Pt at DH/LF. Neither of them are good defenders, and Upton's glove seems to play well at the corner outfield positions.

Depth and allows Jose to DH. They are only pay $5m of the $22m left and they gave up a prospect that wasn't very high internally.
