Most bench players are awful. The guy has been on a team each of the last 13 seasons and played in at least 30 games all but one year. He didn't die. He was going to be on a team if he wasnt gay at some point

Kind of absurd to believe he is only in the league now because he's gay, when people here are preaching concerns of comfortability

Lol at you defending him.

He's terrible. There's nothing you can show me that will prove otherwise.
His PER as a Net this year is fucking -7.1. That's right. FUCKING NEGATIVE SEVEN.
Last year? 3.0. The year before that? 3.7

And on top of all of that he's 35 with absolutely no potential to improve. He's on a rapid decline.

There's a reason no contender even looked at him.

I honestly don't think anybody would have picked him up if he didn't come out. Just look at his play the last two years.

Look at his play his entire career. It's not good, but the point is he's been on a team every year. If he was still in the closet, when he signed onto a team, like he has every year of his career, no one would have complained or made a big deal out of passing up Ivan Johnson of all players. If he was out of the league for a year or two, this would be a valid argument or question, it's not. Centers who are stiffs get signed all the time. Teams also put a ridiculously stupid amount of value in a "respected calming locker room presence"

If there was a big man in FA and the Heat didn't sign him at some point the last 3 and a half years, he's ass

The thing is, if he wasn't gay you wouldn't be defending him.

But regardless of him being gay or not, I'd tell you he's terrible.

He's trash lol. He prolly only saying he's gay for the fame. If he wouldve said he was gay before his nba career, he probably wouldn't have an nba career. Even if you look at his per 36 minutes averages. He'd average 6-6 as a starter. 6 and 6 lmfao

Basically defending someone gay is saying its okay for everyone to be gay and not have children. Even for an adopted child what kid wants two dads? Imagine the embarrassment of a kid who has to tell their friends or classmates they have two dads? If that argument makes any sense

You're right, because there would be nothing to defend because no one would be complaining. The fact of the matter is, no matter who you sign to be at the end of your bench this late in the year, it's not going to be a good player and they won't play a lot. It doesn't matter if they passed on the marginally better scrub, a scrub is still a scrub. Collins is a veteran with previous working relationships with over 1/3 of the team, and most of that 1/3 is the Nets most talented. That's ultimately why he was signed. They weren't employing affirmative action on the process and considering they're the one team with an owner who legitimately doesn't care about how much money he loses with the team, it wasn't about profiting.

And to those saying Collins personally came out to achieve fame and money are just completely ignorant. He's a millionaire already, he could have retired and lived comfortably the rest of his life without this. Not saying you've said it guru, because I don't remember or know, but others have here and its ridiculous.

That's simply not true. I've complained about Jason Collins for YEARS. I would have bitched about this move regardless. It's just that everyone else would have just brushed it off as nothing. But, TRUST ME I would of posted about how it's a terrible signing.

He's a just a big body whose only to get minutes in the post-season if there is a major injury, and if the Nets suffer a major injury, they're done anyway

This question isn't really relevant to this thread, so don't take it the wrong way, I'm just curious.  How old are you?
