It's kind of funny, a lot of people are surprised (as well as myself). But when you think about it, is it really a shocker OKC traded Harden (maybe this soon is a surprise)? And it's definitely not a shocker that they traded him to Houston. They've been trying and trying to get a "star."

Their first problem was is their reluctance to max him. A difference of $2M per season should not be a reason to get rid of a really damn good player who's still really young.

They would still be able to get something good for him in a sign and trade, you don't need leverage with a player of Harden's caliber because teams who can't sign him outright because of a lack of cap space would want to trade for him, causing the teams who can sign him in FA to offer more as well.

It is definitely a shocker that they traded him 4 days before the start of the season.

he's young, but so is lamb and the first round pick, so the age argument is moot.

and yes $2M is a big difference when it could mean $20M in tax for a small market team.

Not that it matters, but Harden will look extremely dumb in a Rockets uni lol

He's young and good, Lamb is young and isn't good and that first round pick isn't contributing anything to the team this season.

I don't care about small market, they sell out their arena every night and I'm sure sell plenty of merchandise. Read the Grantland article below and that small-market argument shit doesn't really work.

props to okc for having the balls to do this

out of the core, Harden was the easiest to replace. yes he's a great player, but they were using him as a 6th man.
why wait? just do it now

happy for james

Three years from now, Houston will be on the hook for 43 million from Harden, Lin and Asik.

Not a bad trade at all for OKC, they get a good scorer in Kevin Martin and a youngin' in Jeremy Lamb who can be something special. Didn't expect this at all though -- I mean not this soon or close to the beginning of the season. I'm interested to see how Harden will do in Houston though.

the rockets also dealt two first round picks so depending on the years i would assume theyll be pretty decent picks. but yea this trade sucks, the picks suck, lamb sucks. should've maxed harden and paid $70M+ in tax

I actually love this trade for OKC

They get some good picks, a guy who can score similarly to Harden, and get a guy in Jeremy Lamb, who can flourish as the SG of the Thunder after this year

He's extremely agile, lengthy, and plays pretty good defense. He can also excel offensively when not a Top Option.

I personally thought James was overrated. Hopefully he succeeds on Team Overpay (Lin and Asik too), but I really like this trade for OKC
