Phil Jackson advised Carmelo Anthony to wait until 2015 to become a free agent in order to allow the New York Knicks to be in position to pursue two "headline players."

Anthony has widely been expected to become a free agent this offseason, but he told Jackson that he would consider the idea.

Jackson said he is concerned that the Knicks could lose Anthony in free agency.

Anthony has never been a free agent in his career.

Not terrible advice, actually. At the rate of the salary cap increasing, his max contract would be a lot bigger if he waited a year. Plus his player option is $23M, which is a fuckton more than he would get next year.

Plus, there really isn't a huge contender that is looking at Free Agents aside for the Bulls. He'll get better looks in 2015 for sure.

I said this months ago and everyone called me stupid heh.
They are gonna have a ton of cap-space if he can just wait another season.

If the Zen Master pulls this off... just put his name up in the rafters with the rest of 'em.

I don't think there's room for Melo in Houston. They'll try if they get the chance, but I don't think it would be successful.

Houston's problem is perimeter defense....and Morey wants to add another shitty defender.
