Heat fear team doctors will never clear Chris Bosh

Chris Bosh failed to receive medical clearance from the Miami Heat to return for the team's playoff run, and now there's a risk the 11-time All-Star might not ever return to the court.

There is reported fear within the organization that Bosh's condition will prevent him from ever being cleared to play again by team doctors and could force him into medical retirement, several sources have told Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Bosh has been sidelined since the All-Star break due to a medical condition that is believed to be blood clots.

There has been friction between Bosh and the organization earlier this month as he was eager to return but could not receive the proper clearance from the medical team. The two sides eventually came to an agreement, and the team announced on May 4 that Bosh would not play again this season.

The Heat have already had two seasons derailed by Bosh's recurring medical issues and the team needs to protect not only the player, but themselves, should he be unable to play.

Windhorst notes that, according to league rules, if Bosh does not play again by Feb. 9, 2017, an independent doctor approved by the Heat and the player's union can review his case and give a recommendation to the league. If the doctor believes Bosh isn't healthy enough to return to the court, the Heat can take his contract off their books for salary cap purposes.

Bosh is owed $75 million over the next three years and would receive all of that money should he not be able to play, though Windhorst reports the Heat would recoup some through insurance.

It sucks big fucking time, but it's probably the right choice. If you even have the slightest 'what if' to think about when he's playing it's not worth it.
He's had a great career, made tons of money, has a family waiting for him and definitely potential for a job on TV. If he doesn't get cleared he'll do the right thing and retire and not force himself back in the league through signing waivers and going to sketchy doctors.

He'll be a Hall of Famer. He has the numbers, accolades, and overall body of work. Really sucks to see someone go out like this, but it's probably for the best.

really hope he doesnt have to quit like this, but would definitely rather live life, than to potentially die from this sport.

He's got the numbers, rings, and all star appearances bro. I was listening to ESPN Radio and they were giving a stat along the lines of "The only active people in the NBA this season that had 11+ all stars & 2 rings were Duncan, Kobe, LeBron, Wade, and Bosh" which is pretty crazy. He just was never thought of as "the man" once he left Toronto and that hurt him a little bit. I think he's a hall of famer though

Yeah he's a HoFer, he has the rings and the All-Star appearances and the stats, if you're talking about skillset he was a top big and a very unique one

I don't think he's first ballot HoF but I'd be shocked if he doesn't make it

i dont think he should be a first ballot player but his stats would have been even better of he stayed as #1 guy his whole career. hes been the kind of power forward/hybrid center that everyone wants NOW.
