The question is whether that will cut it for Asomugha, who at the start of free agency was rumored to be commanding upwards of $20 million per season. NFL Network is reporting that Frank Gore wants a new contract and has elected to hold out of training camp.
ESPN's Adam Schefter has confirmed the report. Like DeAngelo Williams, Gore is 28 years old. It's not difficult to imagine Gore targeting even more than Williams, considering he's been a much more effective player over the past two seasons. Gore and his agent -- Drew Rosenhaus -- also realize the 49ers are heavily counting on the running game with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick listed 1-2 on one of the league's worst quarterback depth charts.
