One day after Manning drew two penalties for illegal snaps at Green Bay, coach Jim Caldwell pleaded with league officials to re-evaluate a change that forces players to wait for the umpire to get into his new position before the ball can be put in play.

The league wasted no time in responding to all the complaints.

"The movement of the umpire to the offensive backfield will happen in the regular season," league spokesman Michael Signora said in a statement given to the Associated Press on Friday. "We continue to analyze and review the impact of the change in the preseason, and we may announce some adjustments to the mechanics of the position prior to Week 1."

As they should. This rule is such bull<Censored>, to any offense in the NFL, honestly.

Of all teams, this <Censored>s over the Colts. Everyone knows about thee hurry up offense they run, and this rule gives defenses an edge over them. Remove it.

Meh. Obviously a guy like Peyton is going to despise the rule, but what QB's and OC's wouldn't? If you are trying to run a hurry up, you have to wait for ump, to get 10 yards back. It is just not right. I can see like almost every offensive player being upset about this rule. It takes away the advantage the offense has over the defense, from the count and hurry up mode.

I'm interested to see what will happen.
I think that the Colts will just move Addai abit closer to Manning
because the rule states that the ump has to be behind the farthest guy in the backfield
but that might screw up some of the Colts timing so we'll see what happens.

They already proposed a change. Instead of the Ref having to be set in his spot like 15 yards behind the line, its been reduced to 12 and he doesn't need to be set.
