ARE. YOU. FUCKING. KIDDING. ME.PHILADELPHIA -- The Detroit Pistons have spurned the Dallas Mavericks' efforts to acquire small forward Tayshaun Prince -- at least for now.
The Mavs offered the Pistons swingman Caron Butler and a 2011 first-round pick for Prince before today's 3 p.m. deadline, according to a person close to the situation.
Butler is out for the season with an injury, but he has an expiring deal, so the trade, basically, would be Prince for the pick. Prince also has an expiring contract.
With Dallas' good record, the pick would be late in the first round, and the Pistons believe that Prince is more valuble in a sign-and-trade scenario. Despite reports to the contrary earlier this week, it is highly unlikely Prince returns next season.
Yahoo! Sports first reported the Mavs' offer.
The person close to the situation said the Pistons haven't given up hope of making a move before the deadline.
