Hrm, I actually lowered the contrast and still added the adjustment layer for it. I suck at text, never know what really works and what doesnt, so I just go with something that doesnt take me too long to decide.

sometimes the over contrasted look comes from too many dodging layers/exposures. even though you lowered the contrast, its still too contrasted.
