The New York Islanders announced Friday that goaltender Rick DiPietro will be out indefinitely due to a concussion.

DiPietro suffered the injury Wednesday when he was hit in the mask by a puck during practice.

DiPietro did not play in any of the Islanders' first three games.

The oft-injured netminder has played just 39 games the last three seasons due to an assortment of injuries. In 26 games last season, he went 8-14-4 with a 3.44 goals-against average and .886 save percentage.

DiPietro, who turned 30 last month, is in his 11th season. In 307 games, he has 127 wins, a 2.84 GAA and .903 save percentage.

lmao hit in the mask with a puck and the dude got a concussion. You wouldn't think that would happen during practice.

Yeah Lundqvist even consciously uses his mask as a tool to block the puck lol

Some players gets a check to the head or punched in the face during a fight and are fine while others are out for a long time with a concussion. Not everyone handles blows to the head the same..

Where did you hear that he was done for the season? He is already skating and doing light workouts..

Indefinitely doesn't mean out for the year. It means he they don't know when he will be back. Could be a week, a month, or a year. He is out for an indefinite amount of time.

Kind of weird to laugh about DiPietro's injury problems. I find it more sad than funny. Never like to see someone get injured once let alone many times.

I realize that its kind of sad, but i'm just pointing out its ironic that he is ALWAYS injured. And yea, we're having a little bit of fun with it, im not trying to be hurtful. And yea, its tough to see someone be injured, but sometimes you have to lighten up about the situation

There really isn't anything to lighten up about. Injuries really aren't that funny. Though everyone has a different sense of humour I guess.

Lol nothing wrong with trying to lighten up the concept. I'm not trying to be an ass, im just saying that it doesn't have to be so incredibly serious on a sports forum. Sorry if you feel otherwise. I know concussions aren't a funny subject, but just lighten up lol.

And as I said there really isn't anything to lighten up about. You find injuries funny, I don't. People have different opinions. Just because I disagree with you on it doesn't mean I need to lighten up.
