Nola, your biggest mistake is assuming anyone wants to sign here.  They don't.  And the fans haven't been driving 20 miles up the expressway to go to the games in about 6 seasons.  Wiping out the entire staff and front office and then remaining patient and throwing another season away would be suicide. They also have a 20 year old center who is a superstar prospect, they can't just tread water and remain mediocre, they will ruin his mentality and his career.

They've improved at back-up PG although I'm a little surprised by it since Will Bynum and Andre Drummond worked very well together, they've improved at back-up C, they've improved at starting SG, and Caron Butler is a nice veteran addition.  I didn't go to a single game last year for the first time in years.  I'll go to some this year for sure.  I think it's been a decent to good off season.

Who did we overpay on? You've said countless times this off-season "that's what the market is."
Meeks maybe a little, but Caron is essentially a 1 year deal unless he hits the fountain of youth. DJ's deal was a bargain IMO, and Martin and Gray were for the minimum.

And even if we did have the money for next year, it is not like Detroit is a marquee location for free agents. We are going to have to build the team via draft and trades.

Wait to see what he does with Josh/Greg before you critique the off-season as a whole.

Meeks maybe a little
and 4.5 for Butler is a overpay. Richard Jefferson signed for the min, for example.

Does he have a player option? Can't see him turning that down.

It is a team option for year 2. So it really doesn't matter what we paid him for this year.

But Durant was pushing for OKC to bring him back, so that probably drove up the price on him a bit.

That 20 year old center is exactly why yall needed to be more patient. Next offseason will be the last offseason Detroit has a chance to surround Drummond with quality players. Instead yall basically greatly lessened the chances of bringing in guys who actually move the needle because yall signed a couple of fringe rotation players. That's just my opinion though so there's no need to really argue about it.

You think guys are knocking down the door to sign in New Orleans?

But we've still acquired Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, Ryan Anderson, and Omer Asik through trades.

We gave up Nerlens Noel, Dario Saric, Robin Lopez, Greivis Vasquez, Gustavo Ayon, and a 2015 first to get those guys. Your GM has to get creative. Saying nobody wants to go there isn't an excuse to go out and spend wildly.

Which is exactly why I said we have to build via draft and trading.
The same way you guys have.
And it is hardly spending wildly. Spending wildly is what Josh Smith was last off-season.

Well you just acknowledged yourself that a team like the Pistons and Pelicans are very reliant on trades.  This Pistons team isn't going to build itself through free agency.  The best thing they can do is try to add beneficial players to the roster in free agency and probably overpay for them.  It's going to come down to how they draft and trade.  Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony aren't going to sign here, Kevin Love isn't going to come here and extend, and none of the impact players in the 2015 group are going to come here either.  This team is going to live or die based on how they can trade Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings if at all.  They can only hope to improve the locker room in free agency, and because of that, I'm happy to have Caron Butler.

Yeah, basically the same exact point I had, typed at the same time as I was typing it.  A Piston fan understands the environment a lot more than an outside fan does.  There's a toxicity here that is hard to overcome.

In the summer, everyone is looking for a reason to throw a bbq/pool party.  I'm feeling like a "The Rodney Stuckey Era Is Over" party.  Is anyone as not shocked as I am that he seems to be getting very little interest in free agency especially in this FA period were rotational players are being vastly overpaid?  The guy is decent enough on the court when he is actually playing his game, but just a completely toxic player.  Doesn't seem like anyone wants anything to do with him.

Now watch the Pistons re-sign him to a two year deal out of nowhere and me go on a drinking binge.

I will come to that party.

Little bit surprised though with the lack of interest. Would be a decent bench player in the right situation.
