Two Class A pitchers going from #Rangers to #Cubs for Dempster.

Correction: One of players going to #Cubs is a pitcher, one a position player. Both at Class A.

I think that they realized that all the star pitchers on the market were gone and had to settle on Dempster. Its a decent move, but I thought they were going for someone like Hamels, Greinke, or Shields. They might still have that possibility with Shields or Lee.

Dempster pretty much is an all-star caliber pitcher, he just doesnt have the W's cause the Cubs run support is shit. I have mixed feelings cause I want him to get the Ws he deserves but i liked him in a Cubs uni

Hard to get excited about this deal after almost landing Randall Delgado.

Christian Villanueva hit two bombs tonight though and a future infield of Rizzo-Villanueva-Castro-Baez sounds nice to me.

We've actually added some decent pitching prospects in the last 12 months.

The three kids they got in the draft this past year (two supplemental picks and one second round pick), Duane Underwood, Pierce Johnson, and Paul Blackburn are all pretty good prospects. Dillon Maples, who they drafted last year, is just starting to pitch again in rookie ball, and was ranked among the team's top 10 prospects to start the season. If Arodys Vizcaino can stick in the rotation, he's got the stuff to be a #1 starter and the 22-year old they just signed before the trade deadline, Juan Carlos Paniagua also is an interesting arm to follow. If Gerardo Concepcion, the Cuban they signed before Soler, turns it around (I'm not counting on it), he was projected to be a middle of the rotation guy as well. The only downside is a lot of these guys are pretty far away, so don't expect anything for a few years.

I wonder if the Cubs seriously consider moving Castro this winter

Castro needs to understand that walking is actually a good idea every once in awhile, he's so talented but I still don't think he knows the rules of how many balls it takes to walk lol

I agree, and if he were 25-26, then I'd probably be worried about him.

However, he's only 22 and most guys his age are playing AA or lower.

He's gonna figure it out, I think he'll be able to hit .300+ with an OBP in the .375-.390 range in his prime.

If he hits .320, no reason to think he can't OBP over .400 in a peak year.
