The Tigers have agreed to acquire David Price from the Rays, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The deal is a three-way trade between the Tigers, Rays, and Mariners.

Tigers center fielder Austin Jackson will go to the Mariners, with Nick Franklin (from Seattle) and Drew Smyly (from Detroit) heading to Tampa in the blockbuster. The deal involves no other players going to or from Seattle, according to a tweet from Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

Minor league shortstop Willy Adames is also going to Tampa in the deal, per a tweet from Rosenthal.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com first reported that Jackson and Smyly were part of the deal (via Twitter). Mike Salk of 710 ESPN tweeted that Jackson would head to Seattle. Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune first reported Franklin’s inclusion (via Twitter)

Definitely going to miss Austin Jackson. Great defensive player, offense has come around in recent years. Really, he can do it all. A little inconsistent offensively at times but he makes up for it with other parts of his game. But for what the Tigers gave up to get David Price, a top pitcher in the game, I think it's awesome for the Tigers. Smyly was meh to me at best. Was good in the bullpen, was a solid #5 pitcher I suppose but I won't miss him nearly as much as Austin Jackson. Lost Adames as well, a highly regarded young player who I don't know much about.

Not entirely sure why Tampa does this deal. At least right now.

They have a lot of young arms still, right?

Austin Jackson is a nice guy but his career has been on a steady decline.

Jackson is terrible. One look at his stats and his obp has dropped from .856 to .754 to .727. Not good.

He's got a yconsistent batting average (sad that.270 is decent), still has his speed, and a good fielder. That's it really.

I assumed Price was a free agent at the end of the year. Apparently not.

What exactly was the Rays rush here?

He put up a 3 war season last year and a beastly 5 war the season before that. He's not terrible.

Don't get the deal for Tampa though. Franklin is nice but I don't really think that's enough for a proven ace like Price.

Exactly. And the Mariners gave up Franklin for Jackson. If Franklin is as good as they tout him to be, that's a lateral move.

The only team this deal makes sense for is Detroit.

Idk. Maybe they were clearing up space for somebody else to re-sign?

And terrible was the wrong choice of words, lol. I guess my point was he's been regressing the past two years.

Safeco is a nightmare for hitters though so wouldn't be shocked if he struggles badly.

Before he got hot in July he was hitting like .238 and looked horrible. Dude is so up and down with the stick and his defense is on the decline. Also doesn't hit a lick in the postseason.

Only thing I don't like is the huge hole it leaves in Center. It's gonna be Rajai Davis platooning with Andy Dirks or Don Kelly from here out.

We need Dirks back badly. Probably the worst defensive outfield in the majors with JD/Rajai/Hunter.
