FIFY.
I like this move too.  He is no longer an "ace", or at least is no longer pitching like one, but he can certainly be counted on to take the ball and give the team a competitive start every 5 days.

Giving up a ton of HRs this season, but I think he has a sub 3 ERA on the road. This could be a very good move.

Also, Cubs are taking on about $5M out of the $14M owed.

ERA over 10 in his last 5 starts, but given the minimal return and cash considerations, it's worth a shot. I figured this would happen in 2018; teams all looking for that old veteran renaissance the Astros found in Verlander last season. Hamels is no Verlander but I agree he's much better suited to pitch in the NL.

Nowadays with Theo... Yeah it probably was wrong to say it on my part. I wasn't sold on the Cubs until they won in 2016.
