Pagano feels that Mathis is going to be able to have a sufficient role in the 34 defense they are transitioning to. They wanted to keep Freeney around, but he isn't open to the change and he wants out of Indy. I really believe the Colts felt that they would be able to pair them up and keep them together as the pass rushers for the new look defense.

As for these moves, it's just the rebuilding phase beginning. It's going to be a patch of a few rough years, but they are really planning for the future.

Going to take a lot of patience from the FO.
