So yesterday I added a chatbar feature to the site, and some people were like "woah something changed."
So anyway, it's an add-on called Arrow Chat. Right now this is a trial version of it, because I don't want to pay for it if members of SI hate it. So, for the next 7-10 days we'll have this on here. If there are bugs or it acts weird, post about it in here. If you like it, or don't like it, say so in this thread.
It looks sorta like Facebook, but if I buy the full version I can install other themes that give it a different look & feel, and perhaps down the line we can design out own look for it that would match one of our skins.
So, that's what's up with it. I feel like it's a nice alternative to the PM system, but it's also less intrusive as a Shoutbox at the top of the index page. Plus you could minimize it (button all the way to the right) if you don't want to see it, you can view and chat from any page on the site, you can open up chat rooms (still figuring that out), and eventually integrate notifications in to it. We also think it would work well with Sim Leagues, especially during any sort of draft or during a Re-Draft we have on the site. If the member is online, you can easily alert them they're up, or just chat with people about whatever.
If we choose to keep it permanently, I will also pay a small price for a cloud service to host the bar on. So it would be hosted on Arrowchat's own servers meaning messaging won't slow down our already shit-ass servers.
