The banished Stephon Marbury acknowledged for the first time yesterday he has a verbal commitment from the Celtics - and accused the Knicks of not accepting his latest buyout offer because they don't want him winning a championship in Boston. A frustrated Marbury said the Knicks were playing "kids games," adding "It's got to be personal."

here's what'll happen:
1. Knicks don't release him until after March 1st so that he can't be on a playoff roster
2. Knicks keep him the rest of the season. He's a 20M expiring contract and they don't need the extra roster space

sorry Steph, your screwed both ways. See you next season, I think?

Why don't they just get rid of him since they're trying to get ready for 2010? They're not going to make the playoffs.

if they keep him, he's a FA this summer
they also don't want him to have a chance at a championship. I cant blame them

LOL.
If they do release him they can make a negotiation where the Celtics cannot sign him.
This could be tampering also... Knicks should really investigate this unless Walsh gave him permission to talk to other teams.

makes perfect sense. Marbury is making 20M and HES getting screwed for not even earning the money...

8 Million buyout is reasonable. IMO.

I'd give up 19.9 Mill to win a championship, but they might not win so.. I'd give like 15mill..
Just give up some money, and most of it and go win.

Stephon and the Knicks are both troubled people/organizations.

In the Knicks' defense, I don't want Marbury winning a championship either.

Though if he did join the Celtics, they are likely to fall apart like every other team Marbury has joined.

That would suck only signing Starbury for the regular season and not for the playoffs
