CBA To Expire December 1

No news to report, but what happens to the Winter Meetings if they don't have an agreement in place?  Potentially, they could have a lockout in place, meaning that nothing can happen.  No players can be released, traded or signed in that case.
Hopefully, they will reach an agreement or have significant momentum toward a new agreement before the current agreement expires.

The only thing I've heard that could stall an agreement is the league's desire to have an international draft. But I really doubt they go to a lockout.

The qualifying offer better be fixed. Its the worst system in sports.

Yea it's pretty bad. And it really only benefits a handful of potential free agents, screws the rest, and will constantly become more and more inflated each year as teams keep throwing more $$ at players. It's gotta be fixed. 
 
Then again, teams don't have to make the offer. Mets should NOT have made a QO to Neil Walker because on no planet was he getting more than $12M per year as a Free Agent, and at most he would have gotten 3 years. He was going to accept that offer. In this scenario it benefited the player.

That did not benefit Neil Walker. What if he wanted a long term deal? There was no way a team would give him one and give up a top draft pick

True. But he's getting $17M for one year. And if he has a good year they'll probably offer it again next year and the # will probably go even higher based on the league average.

And that's all "what ifs", if the Mets were confident he could repeat his year, they'd offer him a long term deal. Instead, he was handcuffed and had no choice in the matter. He had to take the QO or he would be stuck a free agent well into May/June. No player truly wants to be on a one year deal unless they're like 40. They always prefer multiple years if they can get it, which he could have if not for this system.

Nothing about this benefited him, or any player ever.

I suppose you're right. I was looking at it as two years with Qualifying Offers nets him over $30M. It is a huge if though.

I like a suggestion I heard on MLB Network -- the QO is based on the age of the player.  If the player is 30-32, they get a 3 year offer.  33-36, they get a 2 year offer and over 36 they get a 1 year offer.  
An international draft is also a sticking point.  The players don't like it, but management does. 
What compromise can be reached?

An international draft would benefit small market teams. I don't know how things get added to the CBA but it will be tough to add that when the players will oppose it along with several team owners.
