Carson Smith Will Undergo Tommy John

What was thought to be a flexor strain turned out to be much worse. Smith has only appeared in the three games with the Sox this season. He was acquired from Seattle during the offseason. Boston sent Jonathan Aro and Wade Miley to the Mariners for Smith and Roenis Elias.

Don't count too much on him next season, Papi.  The average rehab time from TJ is 12-18 months with most teams opting for the 18 months.  He won't even throw a baseball until next spring.
This said, he should be back to form in 2018.
