The offense isn't even the problem for the Cavs in a matchup versus the Warriors -- its the defense. It's understandable to be concerned about Love fitting in the lineup versus the Death Lineup of the Warriors

But at the same time, if KLove is producing offensively the Warriors can't play KD on him effectively. Last year his offense was off which is why his value was lower. And also KD v Melo in an iso? It's better than Love but if you move KD for a Swing forward you can do better than Melo

Why couldn't they just play Draymond on Love? Draymond doesn't guard LeBron

They aren't going to have both Thompson and Love on the court versus the death lineup

If love is producing like you say he'd be the 5 in that counter lineup

And then Draymond sets the screen up top and then its a KD or Curry iso with no help defense from the rim versus Kevin Love.

Thompson is the five against the Death Lineup 100%, which is why people thought to trade Love. But Melo isn't a better answer

Thompson is too valuable defensively against Golden State. He can switch onto everybody and hold his own. He has to play.

Exactly.

It has to be Thompson, Lebron, and Kyrie -- with two wings that can defend well and hit open shots (JR and either Liggins or Shumpert). They have to be able to defeat the Warriors going 100%, which we all know has yet to be showcased. Their offense when going 100% is going to be almost impossible to beat, so you need non defensive liabilities out there. Kyrie can hold his own enough and not get taken advantage comparably to Love, but he's the exclusion. You can't have Kevin out there

Report: Cavs rejected Knicks' offer of Carmelo for Love
by William Lou 37m ago
Brad Penner / REUTERS

The New York Knicks want to move on from Carmelo Anthony, but the Cleveland Cavaliers aren't taking the bait.

The Knicks pushed for a swap of Carmelo Anthony for Kevin Love but Cleveland have shut down those talks, sources told ESPN's Chris Haynes and Marc Stein.
Anthony is arguably more accomplished, but Love is enjoying his best season to date with the Cavaliers and made strong contributions to their championship run last summer. Love also happens to be younger and on a cheaper contract.

As it stands, Anthony has a full no-trade clause plus a trade kicker and has repeatedly stated his wishes to remain in New York. Evidently, Knicks president Phil Jackson has other ideas for his aging superstar.
The two have butted heads repeatedly this season as Jackson has lobbed a series of passive-aggressive barbs at Anthony through the media, culminating in weeks of tension and finally a meeting between the two mainstays.

Anthony is a close friend of LeBron James, who has been lobbying Cleveland's office to acquire another playmaker in recent months. Anthony would fit that bill, but
shedding a vital piece in Love might be too steep of a price to pay.

The 28-year-old Love is averaging 20.5 points and 10.9 rebounds while shooting 37.4 percent from deep as the third option in Cleveland. Anthony, five years Love's senior, is averaging 22.6 points and six rebounds on 37.1 percent shooting with the struggling Knicks.

Neither team has what I think Phil is looking for.. or should be looking for .. unless he's cool with potentially protected 1sts.. which is cool but kinda want more for Melo then that.

I can't see LAC giving up any of their core players for Melo..

So leaves the question wtf is our leverage? How do we keep from trading him for next to nothing?

As stagnant as he makes the offense without him we have a huge hole.. as much as y'all wanna promote it, KP isn't ready to be the #1 option, he really benefits from Melos double teams, take that away and his lack of post moves, teams can take him out the game..

Idk what to expect

And he won't accept a trade to a shitty team. Best case scenario is he ends up on a contender and we somehow swing a pick from another team in some sort of 3 way deal. Won't happen though, Phil ain't that good.

And it's not even a question of KP being ready to be the top guy. It's a situation where he can be the top guy for the next 5+ years, so build around him now before it's too late.

True.. I'm just looking at this season .. but rn I feel like for him to play at his best he needs to be the 2nd option.. but if a rebuild is what they're going for..

They have to rebuild. They can't win with him, they don't have the assets to build around him. Build around your 21 yr old PF. Not rocket science.

Sources: Besides Cavs, Knicks reached out to Celtics, Clippers about 'Melo deal

Armed with a hope that Carmelo Anthony will eventually waive his no-trade clause, the New York Knicks have reached out to the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers to probe their interest in a trade, league sources told The Vertical.

Knicks president Phil Jackson is determined to find a destination and deal that Anthony would agree to accept before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline, league sources said.
Jackson is determined to rid the roster of Anthony and his contract, and start rebuilding around Kristaps Porzingis, league sources said.
The Clippers are a team that would interest Anthony, league sources said.

Anthony makes $24.6 million this season and has $54 million remaining over the next two years of his contract. His deal includes a 15 percent trade kicker and a player option for the 2018-19 season.

ESPN first reported the Knicks contact with the Cavaliers.

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers are discussing a potential Carmelo Anthony trade that does not include L.A.'s core of Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, or Chris Paul, according to the Daily News' Frank Isola.

A report broke earlier Thursday that Knicks president Phil Jackson was "determined" to trade Anthony, and that the 32-year-old star, whose contract contains a no-trade clause, would at least consider the Clippers as a destination.

While Griffin on the surface may appear to be a logical swap candidate, the current CBA would preclude the Knicks from obtaining him while Derrick Rose still plays for New York. The reason is both are still on their Designated Rookie Max contract extensions, and the little-known rule prohibits a team from having two players on such deals acquired via trade.

Players the Knicks could get in return include Jamal Crawford, J.J. Redick, or Austin Rivers, Isola reports. The Clippers do not currently have a first-round pick this summer.

While Anthony could slide into the Clippers' three-spot and also the four in small-ball lineups, spacing could become a question in such an arrangement.
Anthony is close friends with Paul.
