St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday(notes) is about to take a 15-day unwanted vacation. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Holliday will likely be put on the disabled list Thursday for a strained left quadriceps that just won't go away.
"We were aggressive, we tried, he still wasn't getting to the point where we were comfortable letting him continue to go through the same pattern," Cards GM John Mozeliak said, according to the paper. "So we'll give him a few days, calm him down. We're very optimistic."
Holliday had an MRI Wednesday. "It looks like it's getting better, but rather than push it on June 1, it doesn't make a lot of sense," Mozeliak said, the Post-Dispatch reports. "So we'll go with a conservative treatment after trying an aggressive treatment."
Holliday is batting .342 with six homers and 31 RBIs this season.
