Saga over: Buccaneers releasing Josh Freeman

Bucs released QB Josh Freeman.

The Bucs predictably couldn't find a trade partner after napalming what little value their former starting quarterback had. Freeman has roughly $6.25 million remaining on his 2013 salary, which the Bucs must pay in full. Freeman's play had sunk to extreme lows before his benching — a 45.7 completion percentage, 6.07 YPA, 59.3 QB rating — but he's shown enough throughout his inconsistent career to earn a second chance in relatively short order, likely some time over the next 72 hours. Aside from the usual suspects like Jacksonville and Cleveland — who may not even want to try to upgrade at quarterback as they jockey for draft position — Minnesota, Tennessee, Oakland and the Jets are all possible landing spots. Cincinnati and Arizona could be dark-horse candidates. Wherever Freeman lands, he's highly unlikely to be installed as the immediate starter.

But the Jags have to pick him up, right?

I'd say the Jags are content with where they are this season.

I think someone will pick him up fairly quickly, he's not Tim Tebow. He has loads of talent.

The Bengals as a darkhorse? What? Why.. What purpose, besides back-up, would Cincinnati need or want Josh Freeman. He's a fine average QB, but I don't see them abandoning Dalton.

Browns with the news of Hoyer have to be interested too.
