The Braves have designated outfielder Michael Bourn for assignment, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes (Twitter links). They also selected the contracts of outfielder Drew Stubbs and reliever Alexi Ogando. The Braves signed Stubbs to a minor-league deal earlier this week, adding the veteran to a crowded outfield picture, and Stubbs’ addition as a potential backup center fielder likely made the Braves feel Bourn (and Emilio Bonifacio, who was also cut this morning) no longer had much use for them.

My how the mighty have fallen. Bourn was one of the rising stars in baseball a few years back. Bonifacio had a nice career and should get into coaching.

Bonifacio should still play. The guy would be a great back-up for any team, especially with the amount of steals he can get. He's like Juan Pierre 2.0 and he plays a lot of positions. He's only 30 too.

The Braves acquired Bourn and Swisher last season knowing they could clear $29M off the payroll in time for 2017. It allowed them to dump Chris Johnson, who I believe was due $19.5M through the end of 2017. Atlanta also picked up a cool $10M from Cleveland in the deal. Bourn and Swisher would have to play their asses off to remain with the team. No surprise the Braves opted to cut both before the season.

Agree with Pharoah. Just no way Bourn nor Swisher were making the team this season, and now they're both gone. Shocked Boni is gone, a super utility guy is sought after.

Makes sense, the Braves are clearly a team in rebuild. No need to have guys way over the hill taking ABs away from young players

Curious to see if the Dbacks look at him after AJ going down. I knkw Brito is a popular name with fans, but if Bourne clears waivers, why not

Funny thing is, everyone was surprised when Bourn had to "settle" for a 4/48 deal
