Don't think I will go to the opener now though. Don't really want to see Bynum start.

What I mean is, this will be a good opportunity for guys like Smith, Monroe, and Drummond to get quality minutes together without Jennings jacking up bad shots. Having Chauncey run the point for a few games will be good for those guys.

That is assuming Chauncey slides over to the 1.

But since you went there Sal, losing a chucker who doesn't play defense isn't going to hurt too much.

Well luckily it's not longer. Could have been worse I suppose.

Let him play this year before you continue to use that label.

Ya definitely not going to the opener though. Probably go to the one against the Knicks in a month.

He is going into his fifth year in the league, he is who he is. Have to take the good with the bad.

he hasnt been on a team this talented. but i agreeewith you. i think he can be more of a point guard, though. so he may be able to keep the bad shots down.

i also dont understand the singler hate. hes not a starting caliber sg but hes a guy who can get his spot starts and be a good hustle guy to make some shots off the bench.

I think you know more than anyone how my view of Jennings has changed over the course of the last year or so. Actually, I would not be surprised if Jennings will come out in the start of the season and play very good basketball. Take good shots, get others involved, play solid defense. Problem is, like I said, with his experience in the league and the way he plays, he is who he is at this point. That sort of play that I described isn't containable for him.

Furthermore, I'm just not sure he's the type of PG you want leading your team. His IQ is lacking, his shot selection is bad, etc. I mean take something as simple as a pick and roll, when a pick gets set (whether we're talking about an on ball screen or off ball screen) you want to come off that screen hard and get where you need to go which in Jennings case is normally between the elbows and force the defense to play you, but instead Jennings has a tendency to fade out more towards the 3pt line and take himself out of the play, make himself easy to defend. He settles for less when the opportunity is there to create something better. He, for whatever reason, willingly does what the defense wants him to do. This is because he thinks of himself as more of a shooter than a creator.

And then pairing that with another guy who has a lot of the same problems in Josh Smith? There will be nights where one or both of them have their shot on and the Pistons will win some games, but there will probably be more nights where the two of them being on the court together will be a mess.

I believe he still is going to show sights of that Bucks-Jennings, but I really do believe he is going to tone them down here. And I think having Cheeks and Billups to mentor him furthers my opinion of that.
Chauncey was in a similar spot when he came to Detroit. If anyone can groom him, it would be him.

But like I said, there certainly will be time when he makes fans say "wtf."
