JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguarsquarterback Blaine Gabbert has been named the starter for week one of the regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Head coach Gus Bradley also said Gabbert will miss the rest of the preseason because of a small break in his thumb that will not require surgery.

Bradley told Gabbert, "You're the guy now, go out and compete."

Bradley felt that Gabbert has ownership of the offense and his talents give the Jags the chance to push the ball down the field.

Bradley expects Gabbert to be ready for the opener at home on September 8.

This is really their only option. You know what you're getting with Henne. The Jags have very little talent to work with. Any rebuilding team in that situation should always go with the young guy at quarterback.

Best case, Gabbert improves drastically, shows a lot of promise, and the Jags fight for a playoff spot.

Worst case... Or maybe best case depending on your perspective, Gabbert blows whale dick, and they're picking their franchise QB early in the draft next year.

As long as Cecil Shorts stays healthy, I think Gabbert has a chance to at least keep the Jags in some games. However, I expect Kansas City to throttle them in week 1. The Chiefs are going to be the surprise team of the AFC this year, and I say that fully aware of how good the Browns and Bills have looked so far. The Chiefs are drastically improved.

Ill just say this... Jaguars best QB isnt even playing that position... He's the OW... Gabbert is garbage... Henne is garbage... Scott is light years away... Kafka wont make this roster... Its sad... The team has no QB at all.

MJD should be the QB, if he can throw over the offensive/defensive lines

This has to be the last year of the Gabbert experiment right?

If he sucks.

Honestly, last year probably would have been the last year of the Gabbert experiment if there was a qb worth a damn at #2.

Gabbert should be grateful that he's on the Jaguars right now and for all other circumstances. This guy gets way too many shots.

Gabbert actually played really well last week. If he could just develop some consistency. He's actually got some weapons, now, though Blackmon will be gone for four games.

Their new unis are effing sweet, too. The helmets are awesome.

I think Gabbert looked decent last preseason as well.

How will Blackmon do this year?

Worth a pick-up in fantasy? Too risky?

Didn't they draft Denard Robinson? Play him at QB, that'd be funny

I think he's suspended for the first quarter of the season. Might be worth a look after that. A lot of people have Cecil Shorts rated fairly high, so they must think the passing game will be decent enough.
