With Jose Bautista hitting an astonishing 50 home runs this season, there have been murmurs questioning whether he has been assisted by performance enhancing drugs.

“I do (understand why the public wonders) because of the history. It’s up to guys like me and (the media) to make sure that the public gets their facts right,” said Bautista after hammering No. 50 on Thursday. “It’s been six, seven years since we’ve had testing for performance-enhancing drugs and it seems to be working.”

I doubt he's using PED's, but we've said that about guys before.

This is a guy that's never hit more than 16 in a season before. LOL

I figured he at least hit 20 before this season, but when I looked at his numbers I was shocked. He played for four teams his rookie year too. LOL

Again it's all about the mechanical change. If he was using HGH he'd be bigger than he was last year. Physically not has really change but he obviously had to change the mechanics of his swing because he knew he had raw power.

When the Jays were in town last weekend, Peter Gammons was talking about Bautista working with a coach on his swing mechanics before the season. So, Jays fans aren't the only saying it

I've heard some conversations about that. However, any way you slice it, an increase of 37 HR's over one season seems very suspicious.

I think it's legit, this guy swings the bat harder than anyone... And pitchers haven't had enough time to figure it out yet, so instead of Mark Reynolds-like strikeouts (although he still has a lot) he is connecting more for now. Next year he'll hit .225 with 33 HR, the year after .260 with 30 hr, then he's a pinch hitter.

I don't think it's fair to say he's on some kind of steroids. Davey Johnson had one of the biggest home run leaps and was never tested positive for anything I know he played in a non steroid era but it's still a huge leap. If Bautista gets tested positive for steroids then I would understand the hate.

Especially considering in the stadium he is playing, its tough to hit it out of the Rogers Centre. If it was like CBP or Yankee stadium, then I wouldnt doubt what he has done so much.

alot of those homers at the rogers center are from the jays.

bautista also never played enough before to even think of hitting 50.
