I'm not sure how this will work out for the A's but they desperately need a power hitter. The Oakland A's acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro and left-handed pitcher Justin Marks, the club announced Wednesday.
DeJesus batted .318 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 91 games with Kansas City in 2010 but missed the final two months of the season following surgery on his right thumb. He hit .257 over his first 37 games but then batted .358 over his final 54 contests.
Mazzaro had three stints with Oakland in 2010 and was 6-8 with a 4.27 ERA in 24 games, 18 starts. He replaced the injured Brett Anderson in the starting rotation June 8 and made 17 consecutive starts. The 24-year old right-hander went 5-2 with a 2.84 ERA and .226 opponents batting average over the first nine starts and 0-6 with a 5.60 ERA and .284 average over his next eight before he was optioned to Sacramento Sept. 6.
Mazzaro was 10-17 with a 4.72 ERA in 41 games, 35 starts, in two seasons with the A's.
DeJesus started 67 games in right field, 19 in center field and one in left and did not commit an error in 88 games overall in the outfield. The 30-year old left-handed hitter now has a 241-game errorless streak dating back to his last error on Sept. 15, 2008.
DeJesus was originally drafted by the Royals in the 4th round of the 2000 draft and is a .289 career hitter with 61 home runs and 390 RBIs in 876 games over eight seasons with Kansas City. He hit a career high 13 home runs

in 2009 and batted .307 with a career high 73 RBIs in 2008.
DeJesus joins and Oakland outfield that includes, among others, Coco Crisp, Rajai Davis, Ryan Sweeney and Chris Carter.
Marks spent the 2010 season with the A's two Single-A affiliates at Kane County and Stockton and combined for a 6-13 record and a 4.87 ERA in 25 games, 24 starts. The 22-year old left-hander was originally drafted by the A's in the third round of the 2009 draft.
