The Oakland A's acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro and left-handed pitcher Justin Marks, the club announced Wednesday.

DeJesus batted .318 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 91 games with Kansas City in 2010 but missed the final two months of the season following surgery on his right thumb. He hit .257 over his first 37 games but then batted .358 over his final 54 contests.

Mazzaro had three stints with Oakland in 2010 and was 6-8 with a 4.27 ERA in 24 games, 18 starts. He replaced the injured Brett Anderson in the starting rotation June 8 and made 17 consecutive starts. The 24-year old right-hander went 5-2 with a 2.84 ERA and .226 opponents batting average over the first nine starts and 0-6 with a 5.60 ERA and .284 average over his next eight before he was optioned to Sacramento Sept. 6.

Mazzaro was 10-17 with a 4.72 ERA in 41 games, 35 starts, in two seasons with the A's.

DeJesus started 67 games in right field, 19 in center field and one in left and did not commit an error in 88 games overall in the outfield. The 30-year old left-handed hitter now has a 241-game errorless streak dating back to his last error on Sept. 15, 2008.

DeJesus was originally drafted by the Royals in the 4th round of the 2000 draft and is a .289 career hitter with 61 home runs and 390 RBIs in 876 games over eight seasons with Kansas City. He hit a career high 13 home runs

in 2009 and batted .307 with a career high 73 RBIs in 2008.

DeJesus joins and Oakland outfield that includes, among others, Coco Crisp, Rajai Davis, Ryan Sweeney and Chris Carter.

Marks spent the 2010 season with the A's two Single-A affiliates at Kane County and Stockton and combined for a 6-13 record and a 4.87 ERA in 25 games, 24 starts. The 22-year old left-hander was originally drafted by the A's in the third round of the 2009 draft.
I'm not sure how this will work out for the A's but they desperately need a power hitter.

lol Dejesus isn't a power hitter. He's a do it-all-player. He's very good and consistent and has been for a lot of years now, might have been an all-star a year or two if he had a lineup around him. Sad to see him go, but he is not part of the future.

Royals also cut Brian Bannister

Now only question rest for the Royals offseason...will Greinke be traded..

This is a great fit for the A's..DeJesus is a real grinder, adds some speed on the basepaths, solid defensively. The A's little system of small ball has gone about full cycle again and this is the phase where they really contend for the division title. Look for the A's to continue to upgrade their bullpen and then they will find a way to bring in a veteran powerbat on a cheaper, 2 year deal.

Gotta love how they do sh*t in Oakland. Takes a lot of patience to be a fan but they do compete more than the other small markets can.

I like the move for the A's but I think they should have gone a different way. They've already got Davis, Sweeney, Crisp, and Carter. Plus they've got Michael Taylor waiting in the minors. Move doesn't make a lot of sense IMO.

Still has to find room for Michael Taylor. And he didn't invest about 6M in Crisp to have him sit on the bench for this upcoming season and I can't see too many teams interested in him at that price until he can prove his worth/stay healthy.
