We're clueless because the best arm available this winter wants to test free agency and there's no guarantees he resigns?

Keep throwing insults and no analysis around tho buddy.

Oh it's not an insult, it's a fact.

Yep. It's a fact we are clueless because of the doubts of Chapman resigning.

The value those guys had to the Cubs pales in comparison to what Chapman brings to them. Torres is a great piece, but he was always going to be a trade asset. He's only in Single A, and he wasn't going to take Russell's spot anytime soon. He lacks the power to play 3B, and that spot is held by Kris Bryant. McKinney will probably not make the majors as anything more than a #4 OF. Ever since his injury, he just hasn't been the same. He's 22 YO and his numbers in AA aren't very good. Warren is a nice asset, but he has struggled mightily since April, and has been sent down twice this season. I follow the Cubs farm system and ML roster very closely, and haven't heard of the 4th guy in the deal.

Those 4 players also pale in comparison to Kyle Schwarber, which is what the Yankees started off asking for.

The Cubs have good SP, but not great and having a pen that can shorten the game by 1-3 innings is huge. Ricketts and Theo both got reports from Chapman's agent on what he will be asking for this winter. Cubs value goes up $1 billion with a WS win before 2019, they won't hesitate to bring the trucks out for FAs that are worth the money.

I mean it is an expensive price, but the Cubs only gave up 1 top prospect and it was at positions blocked by 3 All-Stars, 2 of which are 23 years or younger, and Javy Baez. He was definitely expendable. They picked up a game changing talent that eliminates a weakness on a contending team. Torres was an international FA a couple years back, he was always going to be a trade asset, and there's still plenty more of those in the Cubs cabinet.

You don't trade players like Torres for a likely 2 month rental. You trade him for players with more control or part of a bigger deal

Inder these circumstances it makes sense. Not only are they trading from a position of strength, they are a team that can likely re-sign Chapman as long as he works out, not a lot of teams can outbid the Cubs, especially if they win it all this year. Is Torres really worth missing out on a top closer? Probably not

Like what position? They don't really have any holes in the field to address. Sure they could go after a SP, but they still have one of the better farm systems in baseball and can outbid anybody shy of the Yankees if they really wanted to
