PRO BOWL RETURNING TO HAWAII
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 6, 2009, 3:58 p.m. EST

The NFL’s annual Pro Bowl is coming back to Hawaii after a nearly-unanimous vote by the Hawaii Tourism Authority board, according to the Associated Press.

By a vote of 9-1, the board accepted an offer from NFL officials to return the league’s all-star game to Hawaii.

Next year’s Pro Bowl will be held in Miami a week before the Super Bowl.

According to the article, the board had rejected a pair of proposals from the NFL before approving the game going back to Hawaii in 2011 and 2012 for $4 million annually.

“Hawaii is the Pro Bowl,” Lt. Gov. James “Duke” Aiona said.

Next two Super Bowls (after next season) are in Indianapolis & Dallas, so maybe they only plan on playing it at Super Bowl sites in warm weather cities like Miami, Tampa, Phoenix & San Diego?

A few of us argued about this back & forth when it was first announced that the NFL would be tying the Pro Bowl into the Super Bowl festivities.

Now I understood and supported to change...but I don't get why the League was so quick to abandon the idea.

:headsmack: They're not. Jesus...didn't I just say they are playing the game in Honolulu when they play it in cold weather cities? And yes...it is cold in Dallas in February.

So what? They play the Super Bowl, a much bigger and better game, in cold weather cities.

calm down, FSU.. no need for the retalliation.

AE was stating that we had, as a group, discussed the situation previously when it was announced they were abandoning Hawaii. He felt it was a good idea to include with SB activities. - that's whay he meant.

as for Dallas and Indy being cold - it shouldn't matter as both will be Domed stadiums. I just think they overthought the whole thing

I think the idea was stupid to begin with. It belongs in Hawaii and should stay in Hawaii and I dont blame them for changing their minds immediately.

You guys are missing the point. They haven't changed their minds, otherwise this coming years Pro Bowl would be moved too. It's still being played in Miami before the Super Bowl.

No, they moved the 2010 Pro Bowl to the weekend before the Super Bowl & opted to tie it into the SB festivities as a "trial". The NFL felt that the Pro Bowl would receive more attention, better ratings, and provide fans with something to watch that weekend...as opposed to a week after the Super Bowl when nobody really cares.

We know the 2010 Pro Bowl is still scheduled for Miami. The point I am making is why did the NFL change thier mind about this "great" idea to move it to a week before the Super Bowl so soon? They have yet to even see the ratings of the 2010 Super Bowl & they have already made plans to put it back to the way it's been.

Oh my God.....AGAIN.....nowhere does it say they have scraped the idea! In fact they said when they decided to move the Pro Bowl that Hawai'i would still get the game sometimes. Hence getting it in 2011 and 2012 when they aren't playing the Super Bowl in warm weather cities.

You said it yourself, how can they scrap something they haven't had a trial for? Answer: They're not! Nowhere in that article does it state the NFL is scraping the idea.
