Its tough to rely on a 33-year old 3B with a bad back. Conforto is up & coming but he's still young and will strike out a lot. Met fans knew they wouldn't be able to sustain that post-Cespedes trade magic in 2016.GMF said:Dirt poor offense is a little over the top. Our offense was plagued by injuries, and Cespedes' arrival also happened at the same time that players like Wright & d'Arnaud returned, and at that same time Conforto was called up.
We played half the season with players like John Mayberry & Eric Campbell not only starting but batting in the middle of the lineup.
I'm not saying we're going to run away with the division because I think it's going to be close, but I don't get how we're a dirt poor offense.
I agree with basically everything you said. Only minor difference is Dusty will probably get his team to the playoffs, but set them up to fail there by overusing his starters in the regular season.Pharoah said:1. Nationals

Last year was pretty magical for the Mets but I'll agree with pwndroia in that the offense just isn't there. This is the year the Nationals finally get their shit together. Many were expecting more than Dusty to be brought in but I thought he's the right guy to restore order to a split clubhouse. He's highly respected, has a lot of experience, and the club looks very refocused this Spring. We know what to expect from Harper and Scherzer. Papelbon has emerged as a clubhouse leader and Strasburg looks pretty damn good. If there's an achilles to the Nats its Werth's contract.
The Marlins are easily on the rise, given they don't remain sellers. They finally got rid of the toxic leadership and should see a lot of progress from having former All Star players on the coaching staff. I like the Braves to win more games then expected also. Philadelphia is Franco hitting bombs by himself.
The only reason you got to the World Series is because of one player (David Murphy) who had a career postseason that will never ever happen again. Everyone was calling him a savior, yet all he did was get on a tear for a single series. If he didn't get hot at that time, the Mets would've been gone in the first round. They were carried by a career .288 hitter who has never hit that sensational at any point in his career.GMF said:Dirt poor offense is a little over the top. True. But with Rendon, Murphy, Espinosa, and Trea on the roster, they don't have to.GMF said:It's also tough for the Nationals to rely on a full season of Zimmerman at 1B.
So what does that have to do with what I previously said? Or are you just trying to make a point? Every Mets fan knows Murphy played a massive part in getting us to the World Series, and it was the definition of a miracle. Then he also played a valiant part in botching plays DURING the World Series.PWNdroia said:The only reason you got to the World Series is because of one player (David Murphy) who had a career postseason that will never ever happen again. Plawecki is our backup, and he's got less time than d'Arnaud.Pharoah said:d'Arnaud is a solid bat but his arm is a defensive liability. I wouldn't be so quick to gamble on lineup success b/c he's healthy. His backup has logged more innings with the Mets. d'Arnaud could end up atrocious for all we know in 2016.
My point is that you basically got to the World Series because of a miracle. That won't happen again.GMF said:So what does that have to do with what I previously said? Murphy was also a trainwreck on defense which is why we never wanted to re-sign him.
We were talking about their offense. Their offense is dirt poor. The only way they've even come close to having an offense is because of players making miracles. They do not have enough offense to win this division, unless they win it by default because the Nats implode again.GMF said:Again, what does that have to do with the conversation? We're talking about the division, not the World Series. Did I say the Mets are favorites to win the World Series?
