Okay, okay...time to stir the pot.

Once upon a time, SI gave individual team forums shot. Those team forums took up a ton of space, were hard to keep up with, everything short of a disaster. I was one of the biggest proponents to getting rid of them and get rid of them we did.

Looking to now...we need some organization in those Sports Forums. Way too many pinned topics, way too much sh*t listed down the line. I have no interest in bringing back team sub-forums but I am loving the idea of adding division sub-forums onto the 4 major sports' forums.

I'm all for organization and I am also all for making SI look just little more complex when it comes to sports talk. Perhaps these division sub-forums might help reign in a little more than just Sim League, GFX, and smoking marijuana talk around here.

Adding a poll to this...

100% agreed with everything - especially the illegal drug part.

I don't see a huge problem with the talk that goes on in the CT but it's different issue for a different time.

I think we should give it a shot but how are we going to keep up activity in all the divisions. That's the only thing I think that would keep this from happening.

I'm not a big fan of division sub-forums but conference sub-forums would be cool

I like it all NFL, MLB, NBA.

I've been to a forum like that, CTS, and thought it was a <Censored>ing travesty.

No way in hell should we do that -- it's not like the site is dying for activity anyway.

No one wants to put in that much effort for 10+ NFL forums; Two conferences, eight divisions, and a general topic...?

...That will never work and no-one will ever browse through all that un-needed <Censored>.

If it's not broken -- don't fix it.

Thats just it, Sports Talk actually sucks around here now. I don't think its too hard for 1 mod to manage 8 NFL forums, 1 mod to manage 6 MLB, another for 6 NBA...you get the idea. Like I said, organization is needed here. I actually know for a fact that not having General Sports Forums broken up is a huge turn-off for a lot of potential new members.

I wouldn't mind it. We would just really need dedicated mods, which we have seemed to lack when we've tried things like this before.

True dat but don't we have dedicated Mods right now? If not...they need to be fired.

Also I think a lot of important info will be missed with divisions though.

Something big might happen, but if a fan posts in another division, the big news might be hidden. Which will in turn lessen discussion for that topic. Things just seem as if they could get a bit...confusing?

It's not hard to keep activity up in each division imo. If not, try conference forums.

I don't think that the sports talk is really lacking though -- NBA is nearing playoffs, MLB is about to start, NHL is in full swing, and NFL is a month away from the draft.

People do mocks, the NBA forum is active, the MLB forum is too active, and I don't know anything about NHL.

No one is going to look through everything like that.

Look at ClutchTimeSports -- I've never been less intrigued by a lay-out in my life -- it's <Censored>ing horrible. NFL is fine, no need for an NFC West or AFC North section, because no one is going to look through all of them. One forum is clearly the way that it should be; because, it works.

Look at this cluster-<Censored>: http://www.clutchtimesports.net/forums/content.php

Who the <Censored> wants to sift through all that <Censored>?

No one.

I would be the first to step up in the MLB section to mod 6 divisional forums.

I'm with you. I've always hated team-forums, but I've seen division forums and I like them. Groups everything up fairly well, but doesn't break the discussion down too far.

the way CTS does it -- which i don't like -- is they have each division on the index page.

My suggestion, is to add something to the bottom that displays most recent posts/threads. That would enable people to still see big news-stories that are hidden in certain sub-forums.

In fact, we have a link at the bottom of the index page called "Today's Active Topics" which gives you a nice little list of the recent topics that day. I use it frequently.

I'm with GMF...division sub-forums are enough but not overkill at the same time. No point in bringing up CTS either, those quieers do it all wrong. No way in hell would I want all sub-forums listed on the main index.

I'm surprised to hear all nay-saying about this...its really not that hard to adjust to. Not even that hard to keep up with. If our Sports Discussion is as good as some of you think it is, then the content shouldn't be hard to generate for each at all.
