Free agency is upon us again. It's that time of year where you all get to send me 800 different bids for players (but seriously, please don't send that many). I know all of you know how this works, and yet I'm sure I will send at least half of you replies about something with your bids being wrong. So before you bid, please ask yourself a few questions:
Do I have cap room?
Category 1 - Yes, more than 4,500,000
You can offer contracts as normal. You cannot offer anything bigger than your cap space (unless you have bird rights, see below). The max contract is listed below for anyone who would warrant it in this free agency class. The max increase is 10% per year (again, unless you have bird rights, see below). You cannot offer an MLE or LLE.
Category 2 - Yes, but more than 1,200,000 and less than 4,500,000
You can offer contracts up to your cap space as well as the MLE and minimum contracts (again, unless you have bird rights, see below).
Category 3 - No or Yes, but less than 1,200,000
You can offer the MLE, LLE, and minimum contracts.
Do I have bird rights on this player?
Category 1 - Yes, 3+
You can offer as high as a maximum contract for 5 years regardless of if you are over the cap with as high as 12.5% increases.
Category 2 - Yes, 1 or 2
You can offer 110% of his previous contract for 4 years regardless of if you have cap room or not, with as high as 10% increases.
Category 3 - No, he wasn't on my team last year
You can't go over the cap to sign this player (unless you use your MLE, LLE, or minimum) and you can only offer a 4 year deal.
And for the future....
I just signed Zion Williamson, why is he not on my team?
Certain players in this class are restricted free agents (the full list can be found here). In order to sign them to an offer sheet, you must offer something of greater starting value than what their cap hold is in that thread. If you do manage to sign the player, his original team has 24 hours to match the offer. If they do, he goes back to their team, no questions asked.
--------------------------------------------
Since I'm sure somebody will ask, here are the MAX contracts:
0-6 Years Experience: 25% of salary cap or previous contract times 20 percent (whichever is higher)
7-9 Years Experience: 30% of salary cap or previous contract times 20 percent (whichever is higher)
10+ Years Experience: 35% of salary cap or previous contract times 20 percent (whichever is higher)
For those of you wondering, MLE ($4.5 M) and LLE ($1.2 M) players are NOT tradeable under any circumstance. You're stuck with them for the year. Think about that before you offer the contract. No, you cannot offer multi-year MLE's and no, you cannot split them between players. You CANNOT offer a restricted free agent the MLE or LLE. These 4.5 and 1.2 contracts are scaled up once they are signed.
Remember, all bids are sent to me via private message ON THIS SITE. Bids sent via groupme will be ignored. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send them in alphabetical order by FIRST NAME. You will have a chance to submit new bids at certain intervals. Please keep them in the same private message. Also, please make sure you are sending the STARTING year amount of the contract, and not the TOTAL contract amount.
If you are one of those people who sends a ton of MLE's/LLE's/minimum bids, please group these separately.
Please differentiate whether or not you want your previous bids to remain or not when submitting a new round.
There's probably an error or two in here, but you get the idea. I'll probably add stuff in at some point too. Feel free to ask me any questions.
